About Us

Some ministries focus on saving those who have not heard of Jesus and some ministries focus on different initiatives such as clean water, HIV care, orphan care, or even financial planning. The GUKURA Corporation combines all these elements to help a specific group of people: Women and girls forced into prostitution and sex slavery in Rwanda.

This journey began with one, seemingly simple general principle, that all people deserve the love of Christ. Regardless of their pasts, their current situation, their finances, their health, or their church attendance. We are all children of God and need the gift Jesus Christ came to earth to give us: Salvation.

Rwanda Human Trafficking victims are different from the groups people have typically ministered to. We cannot just walk into these girl’s lives and tell them that there is a God who loves them. The majority of them have never known love. Most of these girls have grown up as orphans, some have been horribly abused and raped, some are widows but all of them have been forced to sell their body to survive. God didn’t design us to live this way. The only way to heal these broken lives is through Christ. We need to help them see His love by loving them unconditionally, showing them that they have value, a future and a purpose, maybe for the first time.  Right now, they are not strong enough, nor have the emotional confidence, or even the possibility of an alternative source of income. They are caught in a horrible cycle. Our program can provide a way out. I believe with God’s help, we can lessen the spread of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda. Children can grow up with their mothers in the home and not on the streets. Women will not have to sell their bodies to put food in their children’s’ mouths. Young girls will not grow up thinking they have no choice but to follow in their mother’s footsteps, that men will use them, that people are expendable. I believe in the church community, that the church can reach out to help these women with compassion and love. The church will be a place of sanctuary, hope, and forgiveness from a life that had been hostile, toxic, and unbearable. Jesus walked this earth, touching the lives of many sinners, including prostitutes. Shouldn’t we do the same?

Gukura

GUKURA means GROW in Kinyarwanda (the native language) because we want the women and children of Rwanda to GROW through Jesus Christ
